Christmas 2012

A lovely warm day filled with a morning walk in the drizzling London rain (because you just have to have a walk on christmas) followed by the reading of Good Wives and then the Great Gatsby curled up in bed with a coffee. Then a few sausage rolls while watching a movie with the family and  lastly the long waited for christmas roast - which was delicious. The christmas period has been filled with watching great movies including Requiem for a Dream, The Life of Pi and A Beautiful Mind. I have enjoyed eating more than ever and relaxing with family and friends doing nothing.

Instagram over the last few days

Death: a self-portrait.
This was a fantastic exhibition about death in different forms and our conflicting perceptions of it. One of my favorite pieces were a series of photographs in which a skull had been painted over the faces. It symbolized the final truth of death: its uncanny facelessness.
Some of my friends took me out to Islington for a birthday breakfast. I love the area because it is filled with fabulous little vintage stalls and amazing food markets, as well as lots of quirky restaurants.
A cute christmas party.

Tea at The Delauney

As part of my 16th birthday celebration, I went for afternoon tea at The Delauney in Convent Garden. We were confronted with huge three their cake stands which held numerous warm scones, finger sandwiches, little slices of cheesecake, miny bites of pistachio and cherry cake and lots more. After we had decided that we physically couldn't eat anymore, we wandered around convent garden; popping in to an adorable old sweet shop and admiring the  sparkly christmas lights.

I apologize for all these instagram pictures recently, but The Delauney is so fancy that you cannot take photos there, and I thought that my big black camera would attract a bit of attention..

I received wonderful presents, including a poster of Lolita, a vintage book on french films, a book on fashion blogging and also a trip to Paris from Sasha! We are going in spring, and I absolutely can't wait!

Christmas Banquet

So, yesterday was my birthday. Unfortunately, I had two long exams during school, but I was pleased to eat yummy birthday cake for breakfast. I received the new ipod touch from my parents, which I have become obsessed with since I have finally downloaded instagram. I have been using my ipod as my camera over the last few days, especially tonight at mine and my friends' christmas dinner. We began with sausages and chestnuts with glasses of champagne; then roast chicken, roast potatoes and honey glazed carrots and then finally a dessert of chocolate cake, mince pies, chocolates and apple pie. We finished in the christmas spirit with christmas crackers and a game of sherades. It was so fun!

My parents also gave me some dvds as presents, including 'The Roman Holiday' which I just finished. It is a beautiful black and white film starring Audrey Hepburn who plays an innocent princess who desires to escape and explore the outer world. It was absolutely brilliant and made me miss Italy!

1960

Considering we had only half an hour to prepare and conduct a photo shoot this morning, I am very pleased with the result. Some of the pictures are over-editted in order to achieve the vibrant swinging sixties style pop art style. Ella wore four outfits. A bright red crop top and mini skirt, a preppy checkered dress, a hippie/ bohemian themed vintage top with a bindi and a velvet top with a checked skirt. My next step will be painting and collaging on top of them.

December is just the best season ever..

'I felt like destroying something beautiful.'

Yesterday, I went for lunch with my family to celebrate my little cousin's 4th birthday. I had eaten already, so instead of lunch I ate a sticky toffee pudding, which I subsequently concluded was the best one I had ever had. In the evening, I went to Winter Wonderland with some friends.

Gingerbread

One of my favorite things to do in winter is to sit talking in Starbucks with friends . I love wrapping my fingers around a mug of  hot gingerbread latte after walking around in the icy cold air and talking for hours. I have been spending my weekends doing a lot of this lately, which is perfect. I also had my friend, Rebecca's birthday tea party which was very cute and I took some pictures.

I've been watching some amazing movies including Fight Club and The Dark Knight. The next of Almavador's films which I watched, however, was quite a disappointment. I was excited to watch what was described as one of his 'most disturbing film of all time', however Matador was based around an idea which I had seen before on various TV programs. Although I had never seen such a graphic portrayal of a necrophiliac, I was not at all shocked by the plot of the movie but only the explicitness of it. Nonetheless, I still plan to watch a few more.

The Law of Desire

I somehow haven't managed to take my camera anywhere with me at the moment. Through parties and fantastic nights around town, I haven't taken a single photo over the last few weeks.
Anyway, in the meantime I can share with you a bit about the Pedro Almodovar films which I have been watching. My mum is a huge fan of his work and so I decided to watch a few films from the box set. My favorite was 'Law of Desire' which is known to be his first explicitly gay movie - and is nothing like any film I have even seen before. However, it was certainly interesting and worth watching if you want to be transformed into a crazy world of lust, religion, jealousy and possession.

And I have some photography lined up for the next couple of weeks which will be linked to my art project, based around 1960s Britain. I'm thinking lots of bright bright swinging sixties colours, round sunglasses and lots of sparkle and shine.

Disney

This weekend, I had Jamie's disney themed birthday party. I like the fact that my friends and I still act like young children when it comes to birthdays. I squeezed into my mermaid dress which I had worn on my 4th birthday party and dressed up as Ariel from the The Little Mermaid. The party was really cute, with Winnie the Pooh, Tinkerbell, some of Snow White's dwarfs and more of my favorite disney characters eating sugary sweets and coloured meringues whilst listening to a Disney Soundtrack.

Around christmas time, I absolutely love going to town at night. I love walking around the streets and looking at all the sparkly lights and christmas decorations in thick wooly jumpers. So despite the fact I don't particularly enjoy the actual ice skating, my night skating at the Natural History Museum was perfect. The rink was surrounded by trees lined with glistening white lights and circled a huge bright christmas tree.

As part of Jamie's present, my friends Annabel and Ella and I took her for a traditional sunday roast at a gastropub called the Clissold Arms. I love it there because the outside has loads of fairy lights and comfy sofas with blankets on, so you can sit outside all cosy and drink hot chocolate.
